WeTransfer free plan limits in 2026
3 GB, 10 transfers, 3 days. Here’s what each of those limits means in practice, how the rolling 30-day window works, and what to do when a project outgrows it.

3 GB is your month, not your transfer
Free WeTransfer used to mean 2 GB per transfer with no monthly cap. Now the free plan is a 30-day budget: 10 transfers or 3 GB, whichever you reach first. Send one 3 GB file and you’re done until it ages out of the window.
The window rolls rather than resets. WeTransfer’s own example: send two transfers on the 1st and eight on the 15th, and you get two back on the 1st of next month and eight more on the 15th.
For video, that budget disappears quickly. UHD ProRes 422 HQ at 23.976 fps has a target data rate of about 707 Mb/s in Apple’s ProRes white paper. That means 3 GB holds roughly 34 seconds of footage. A single review cut in a mezzanine codec won’t fit.

Free and Starter links last up to 3 days from the moment you send, and on those plans an expired transfer is gone for good. If the person you’re sending to is on set, travelling, or simply slow to open their email, that’s tight. You end up re-uploading, and on the free plan every re-send uses another transfer from your 10.
Does WeTransfer train AI on your files?
Its current terms say no. The question comes up because of what happened in July 2025. A terms update set to take effect that August included language about using content to improve machine learning models for content moderation. Creatives pushed back hard. Within days, WeTransfer rewrote the clause to remove the machine learning wording and said publicly that it doesn’t use transferred content to train AI.
That’s a fair summary of the record, and the current terms are clear. Send Atlas has the same policy, and we’ve had it from the start: your files are never used for AI training or content analysis.
Your options past 3 GB
You can upgrade within WeTransfer: Starter raises the budget to 300 GB, and Ultimate removes the transfer cap and the 3-day expiry. Or you can switch to a service that doesn’t meter you in the first place. Every Send Atlas tier includes password protection, and Pro adds delivery receipts so you know when a client has downloaded the file.

Is WeTransfer still free in 2026?
Yes. The free plan lets you send up to 10 transfers or 3 GB in total, whichever you reach first, in any rolling 30-day window. Free links stay up for a maximum of 3 days.
How many transfers can I send on WeTransfer for free?
Up to 10 in any 30-day period, as long as they add up to no more than 3 GB together. A single 3 GB transfer uses the whole allowance.
When does the WeTransfer free limit reset?
It doesn’t reset on a fixed date. WeTransfer counts the transfers you’ve sent in the last 30 days, so each one frees up again 30 days after you sent it.
How long do free WeTransfer links last?
Up to 3 days on the Free and Starter plans, counted from the moment the transfer is sent. On Free and Starter, expired transfers can’t be recovered. Ultimate lets you choose any expiry, including none.
What is the biggest file I can send on WeTransfer?
3 GB on Free, because that’s the whole 30-day allowance. Starter allows 300 GB in total across 10 transfers. Ultimate allows unlimited transfers of up to 1 TB each.
Does WeTransfer use my files to train AI?
WeTransfer’s current terms say your content isn’t used to train AI. In July 2025 a terms update briefly included language about improving machine learning models. After a public backlash, WeTransfer rewrote the clause within days and said it doesn’t use transferred content for AI training.
What’s a free alternative for bigger files?
